Edinburgh charities celebrate share of £1.8 million funding

Eighty four Scottish charities are sharing over £1.8 million in the latest round of awards made by Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland. Just over £1 million of this is going to ten charities for work with children and young people affected by drug and alcohol misuse. In Edinburgh, 12 charities will share over £216,000, and in the Lothians another 5 charities will receive just under £35,000.

Mary Craig, the Foundation’s Deputy Chief Executive, said: “Our latest awards to support work with children and young people affected by substance misuse brings the total funding we’ve put into this area to almost £13 million. As every pound we award is matched from other sources, that means in the last seven years this programme has helped delivered over £25 million of support for young people across Scotland who are at risk. This is all about helping them to have a better future, and we’re delighted that the charities who are receiving funding through our latest awards will be able to continue with their life-changing work.”

The other £735,000 is going to support charities across Scotland and is paying for everything from equipment and clothing for a wheelchair curling club to dance classes for children with speech, learning and communication needs.

In Edinburgh, Crew 2000 were awarded £101,000 over three years. John Arthur, Director, said: “Many of the young people we support are at a crossroads in their lives, and getting the right help and information really can change their entire future. This money will let us develop some of our existing services, providing information and support at the right time and in the right way to really make a difference. We’ve carried out research to understand what it is that local young people need, so we’re really confident the way we use this money will have a big impact.” This brings the total the Foundation has awarded Crew 2000 to over £400,000.
