74 Scottish charities are sharing over £1.4 million in the latest round of awards made by Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland. Just over half of this is going to five charities to work with children and young people affected by drug and alcohol misuse.
Mary Craig, the Foundations Deputy Chief Executive, said: “Our Partnership Drugs Initiative concentrates on improving the lives of vulnerable young people on issues around drugs and alcohol. In our latest round of awards over £721,000 is going to five charities to deliver much needed services in local communities.
“We’ve also made 58 awards totalling over £631,000 which will support the day to day work of Scottish charities and 11 awards totalling just over £58,000 to help charities build their own capacity.”
In Edinburgh, Includem was awarded £261,833 over three years towards salaries and running costs of the Edinburgh Young Women’s Project.
Claire Gibson, Operations Manager, said: “This money will help us to continue to work with young women in the Edinburgh area who have had substance misuse problems, supporting them to move on and progress in their lives. By expanding our current service and focusing on young women aged between 13 and 15 years who are at risk or in the early stages of alcohol or drug dependency we’ll be able to help even more vulnerable young people. Working with a client at a young age reduces the length of support they require and really does change the rest of their life.
“This project will offer intensive one to one support for the young person, and will work with the family in their home. The young person will also be able to access our 24 hour helpline and attend our small group work sessions to develop their social and relationship skills.”
A total of £626,833 has been awarded to this charity through the Partnership Drugs Initiative programme and a further £22,000 through our other award programmes since 2001.
